Derek Williams
Derek Williams has a First Class Honours Degree in Three Dimensional Design and a Masters Degree in Arcitecture and Design from The Royal College of Art. For the past 30yrs experience has been gained in commercial, leisure, retail and residential design, with the last 25 years predominantly in the high end residential sector. Clients have been corporate entities, developers or private individuals of varying nationalities with projects located in the UK, France, Greece, Russia, Kuwait and the Caribbean.
The work has involved building types from different epochs, of various construction methods and at times in challenging locations. Clients have required a whole range of services, from concept design, the obtainment of necessary approvals, detail design, production of bulding documentation and the overseeing of the works until completion with specific concentration on the control of quality, then beyond as client aftercare.
In particular an acute awareness has been gleaned of the principles that affect the London property market for the development of properties in the sales and rental markets whether extending or just refurbishing buildings. An ability to work with both classical and contemporary design has been necessary and the need to blend both approaches in creating stylish but comfortable homes at times has been essential.
Derek Williams prides himself on getting the most out of a building in respect of what a brief requires, particularly in the planning of the space given physical parameters and the possible volumes obtainable. There is a desire to achieve the best visual effect, but also to ensure that practicality and comfort of use is established. It is imperative that circulation flows and that activities are properly connected. It is also essential to achieve the most uplifting of sensations with height, with breadth and to retain a keen sense of what should be public and what should remain private within any enviroment and culture.
A whole range of working relationships have been established with other professional consultants who are like minded in their intent on delivering an excellent service and the highest quality product both in the UK and abroad. These contacts cover all aspects of a building, its interiors and landscape. Particularly with regard to the interior furnishings, Derek works hand in hand with specific design colleagues, craftsmen and specialist finishers to ensure design coherence, coordination and quality throughout the complete progress. Derek is involved not only in the design of all fixed works, but also designs most of the furniture which is bespoke and oversees all furnishing aspects.
